It's Haim Time
Haim’s old family band Rockenhaim reunites live in West Hollywood
Haim were joined onstage by their parents, Laura Marling, Ed Roste of Grizzly Bear, Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanglij, Jenny Lewis, and Ke$ha.
Long before Haim time swept the world, sisters Danielle, Este and Alana were all earning their musical stripes in an altogether different band - Rockenhaim. With the addition of their parents Moti and Donna, Rockenhaim was a full family affair, but sadly had to take a back seat when Haim’s debut album ‘Days Are Gone’ took off. Fittingly, Rockenhaim chose Good Friday to mount their reunion, for a special benefit show at the Troubadour in West Hollywood. The show was dedicated to Sammi Kane Kraft, an actress, musician, and close friend of the Haim family. She was tragically killed in a drunk driving accident back in 2012.
Playing covers of ‘Mustang Sally’ - made famous by Wilson Pickett - and Chuck Berry’s ‘Johnny B. Goode,’ the newly reunited Rockenhaim were joined by a host of special guests: Ed Droste of Grizzly Bear, Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanglij, Laura Marling, and Ke$ha. Jenny Lewis also joined the band, as well as debuting a brand new song ‘Girl on Girl’ with Haim.
Despite their pivotal role in the original manifestation of Rockenhaim, thankfully there were no stools in sight for the reunion. “The stools haunt my dreams, they were so dorky!” Haim’s Alana told DIY, speaking to us about Rockenhaim. My dad made special pillows to make the stools more comfortable. I don’t know why my dad likes them so much, I think he thinks they’re professional or something.”
