Hazel English gets stylish but ominous in the video for ‘That Thing’

Back in May, Hazel English released her double EP ‘Just GiveI n/ Never Going Home’, a collection that coupled her debut EP with a handful of new tracks.

One of those new tunes was ‘That Thing’, a shimmering pop number that combined what Hazel does best (aka lovingly crafted vintage indie with honest songwriting) with some bigger, more forceful production. Now the tune has a brand new video and, fittingly, it balances the sense of grandeur and intimacy that the song conjures just as perfectly, with just a little bit of an eerie edge.

It’s been directed by Kella Anne and Luca Venter, who have crafted the video so that it explores “the idea of isolation, creating stylized environments, heavy and ominous in their seclusion”. Hazel is cast as a lone figure, in her room, as a glamorous singer and swimming in a pool, evoking the feeling of films like ‘Blue Velvet’ and ‘Mulholland Drive’ in its twisted glamour.
