Hear Oceaán turn the wheel on new remix of Years & Years’ ‘King’
Manchester producer finds eerie fragments in the UK trio’s massive new single.
Years & Years’ new ‘King’ single is their first serious charge towards the charts, an affirmation of the BBC Sound Of poll-topping success they began the year with. Ahead of its 1st March release, it’s just picked up a rule-shunning new remix from Manchester producer Oceaán.
Within the space of three and a half eerie minutes, Oliver Cean makes Y&Y frontman Olly Alexander out to be a deadly, android-like monster (pitch-shifting never sounded so sinister), with clipped beats dropping in and out of focus. Barely any aspect of the original’s been retained, and that’s a big part of why Oceaán’s being tipped as a bright new prospect.
His ‘King’ remix follows on from last year’s EP on Chess Club, ‘The Grip’. Forthcoming UK shows include Live at Leeds (2nd May) and Brighton’s Great Escape (14th-16th May).
This remix appears on Years & Years’ new EP, out 1st March and featuring edits from TCTS and The Magician. Pre-order on iTunes.
