Hear ‘The Shins’, a track from James Mercer’s old band
Track links up with a ‘90s “side project” of the same name - the rest is history.
A new version of a song from James Mercer’s old band, Flake Music, has emerged. The track name might sound familiar: ‘The Shins’.
Taken from a 1997 LP ‘When You Land Here It’s Time To Return’, the song arrived one year on from the birthing of a side-project of the same name. The Shins themselves formed a year before, with Mercer and Jesse Sandoval (both of Flake Music) starting the second group as a “side project.”
The ’97 full-length came out on Omnibus Records and on 24th November, it’s getting a remastered release via Sub Pop and Apothecary. It’s being made available on vinyl for the first time in fifteen years, available for pre-order here.
Listen to the new version of Flake Music’s ‘The Shins’ below.
Mercer’s been busy in 2014 with his Broken Bells project alongside Danger Mouse. They released ‘After The Disco’ earlier this year.
