Hugo Boss have ripped off The xx’s ‘Intro’ for a new advert
The xx’s label Young Turks called out the fashion brand last week.
Hugo Boss have been accused by The xx’s label Young Turks of ripping off ‘Intro’, a song taken from the band’s seminal debut album.
In an advert advertising a range of eyewear, the song is replicated almost note-for-note. The baseline, the timing of the beats - the only element that’s not exactly the same is the lead synth line (replacing Romy’s guitar), which bears a couple of tweaks (like if Jamie xx drank too many sugar drinks and got a bit bored).
Young Turks’ tweet was on-the-nose, saying: “As a firm built around original design, isn’t it odd that you’d pay for such a poorly disguised fake?”
The advert itself has been around since April of 2014. In a similar incident, Vienna producer SOHN publicly outed Audi for using his ‘Lessons’ song in a new commercial. The version appearing on their ad turned out to be an unofficial remix that SOHN hadn’t commissioned.
