IDLES return with video for storming new track ‘Colossus’
It’s the band’s first new material since last year’s ‘Brutalism’ debut.
IDLES are back! After getting its first play on Steve Lamacq’s BBC Radio 6 Music show just now, the band have shared a new video for huge comeback single ‘Colossus’.
The brilliant video for the near-six-minute track sees the band become Stone Cold Steve Austin, Fred Astaire, Evel Knievel, Jesus Christ and all manner of other icons, all set over a blistering takedown of toxic masculinity.
The band have also shared a message on their socials, pointing at a date of 3pm next Tuesday, 5th June, along with the hashtag #JOYASANACTOFRESISTANCE, so it looks like we’ll be getting more news then!
We spoke to the band’s Joe Talbot about the Bristol quintet’s upcoming second LP, which he tells us concerns the “defiance of love”.
“It’s a new kind of grief,” he expands of the album’s themes. “The first album was much more about catharsis and explosive, visceral emotion and this one is about channelling a different kind of grief that’s about progressing as a person and learning from pain, loving yourself and helping other people and yourself through community and listening to people.”
