Gorillaz offer up new IDLES collaboration ‘The God of Lying’
Their slinking new track gets lifted from the outfit’s forthcoming ninth album ‘The Mountain’.

Animation’s finest musical troupe Gorillaz are back with another new offering, this time in collaboration with IDLES.
Seemingly tapping straight into society’s current consciousness, ‘The God of Lying’ is a slinking new track written with IDLES’ Joe Talbot that points the finger at misinformation in the modern age, and wanting to break free of doom-scrolling in favour of a good old-fashioned bit of escapist inebriation. What’s not to love?
What’s more, the track was pieced together across London, Devon and Mumbai, withAjay Prasanna on bansuri and percussion by Viraj Acharya. Speaking of the latest taste of the outfit’s new album, Gorillaz frontman 2D has said: “Can I tell you a secret? Doubt is very tiring but questioning things is really good for you.”
The track gets lifted from the band’s forthcoming ninth album, ‘The Mountain’, which is set for release on 20th March 2026 via their newly-founded own label, KONG, and follows on from their previous releases ‘The Manifesto’ (feat. Trueno and Proof) and their collab with Sparks, ‘The Happy Dictator’. The follow up to 2023’s ‘Cracker Island’, the latest release from Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett’s group, will also feature the likes of Johnny Marr, Gruff Rhys, Yasiin Bey and Jalen Ngonda across the album. Movingly, ‘The Mountain’ will also include the voices of late friends and musicians, including Bobby Womack, Mark E Smith, and Tony Allen.
