Jamie Woon confirms work on a new album during Beats 1 interview
The follow-up to debut album ‘Mirrorwriting’ is inspired by D’Angelo’s ‘Voodoo’.
Previous recluse Jamie Woon has confirmed that he is currently working on a new album.
The singer-songwriter was speaking on Beats 1 radio following the debut of a new song ‘Sharpness’ on Annie Mac’s Radio 1 show, and Pharrell playing the track on his Beats 1 show.
Now signed to the same label as Disclosure, PMR, Woon confirmed his new album to be inspired by D’Angelo’s ‘Voodoo’, as well as working with Wild Beasts producer Lexx. “I’m really inspired by D’Angelo’s ‘Voodoo’ and having the band in the room,” he said. “It’s a dying art trying to record live players because it costs money to do it properly. My starting point was that I wanted to hear a funky rhythm section.
Woon added: “It’s still the same type of songs it’s just a real drummer and bass player, not electronic. I found an amazing producer called Lexx last February. He’s worked with Gwilym Gold and Wild Beasts.”
Speaking about his whereabouts since the release of ‘Mirrorwriting’, Woon said: “I just was in North London for most of the time. If I haven’t got music to release, I keep a low profile. There’s TV to watch and burgers to eat!”
