Jimmy Chamberlin to rejoin Smashing Pumpkins
What could possibly go wrong….
Original Smashing Pumpkins drummer Jimmy Chamberlin is set to rejoin Billy Corgan for the band’s summer tour with Marilyn Manson. Chamberlin hasn’t played with the Pumpkins since quitting in 2009.
Jimmy Chamberlin’s return to the band is slightly surprising given his various disagreements with Corgan over the years. Speaking to DIY last year, looking back, Billy Corgan called “the behind the scenes politics.. impossible. I wouldn’t wish it on my best enemy.” He later claimed that The Smashing Pumpkins in their original form stopped existing for him in 1996. “Now it’s down to what somebody said about something that happened in a time when nobody gives a shit any more,” he told us. “What did the dead person say about the other dead person. What did the skeleton say to the other skeleton.”
Today, though, the pair appear to have put it all behind them, and moved on. “We’re thrilled Jimmy’s back in the saddle this summer to drive a super high-octane set, and it’s nice to see the stars aligning around Smashing Pumpkins anew,” an optimistic Billy Corgan said in a press release. Chamberlin will play with Pumpkins until the end of the tour, which ends in August. From then on, the Pumpkins line-up will remain interchangable.
