Jonny Greenwood debuts new music on Flying Lotus’ Radio 1 Residency
Including a new remix of Thom Yorke and an instrumental of his ‘Spook’ track.
Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood closed out Flying Lotus’ latest Radio 1 Residency with a batch of exclusive, previously unheard material.
The guitarist and composer debuted an instrumental version of his ‘Spook’ song, from the recent ‘Inherent Vice’ soundtrack. He mixed this in with a remix of Thom Yorke track ‘A Rat’s Nest’, while playing an unheard demo from the ‘There Will Be Blood’ soundtrack - ‘De-Tuned Quartet’.
He closed things out with the first play of his new solo track, ‘Lola Choir’.
The guitarist has been working on a record with Shye Ben Tzur and an array of musicians in India. Separate to the Radiohead studio time, he’s been basing himself out in Mehrangarh Fort, Jodhpur. “The Maharaja allowed us use of the fort, and we’ve basically been living here with 12 Indian musicians and we’ve made a record,” he told The Sunday Guardian.
Greenwood claims that Radiohead have “changed our method again.” When asked to elaborate, he replied: “It’s too involved [to explain how]. We’re kind of limiting ourselves; working in limits. So we’ll see what happens. It’s like we’re trying to use very old and very new technology together to see what happens.”
