Jonny Greenwood gives an update on Radiohead’s next album

Jonny Greenwood has given an update about Radiohead’s upcoming ninth album.

Last month, Greenwood spoke to 3voor12 about Radiohead’s recent studio time together, an interview which has been translated by fans on a Reddit page, and picked up/reported by Consequence of Sound.

The most revealing fact about Radiohead’s as-yet-untitled release is that the group are set to record a track called ‘Lift’, which they played live frequently circa-1996. Greenwood said: “What people don’t know is that there’s a very old song on each album, like ‘Nude’ on ‘In Rainbows’. We never found the right arrangement for that, until then. ‘Lift’ is just like that. When the idea is right, it stays right. It doesn’t really matter in which form.”

Greenwood admitted that it took “a lot of time” for them to reconvene as a group, and that he and Thom Yorke are recording together in brief sessions. “This afternoon, Thom and I will work on a song we started yesterday, and see what it will lead to,” Greenwood said.
