The singer will release her second record on 26th September.

Joy Crookes releases ‘Perfect Crime’ single ahead of new album ‘Juniper’

Just a few weeks after Joy Crookes released her latest single ‘Perfect Crime’, she’s now shared its striking accompanying video. The new track comes co-produced by Joy and Harvey Grant, and thematically sees the artist attempt to harness her own power. It also lands ahead of the arrival of her forthcoming second album ‘Juniper’, which is due for release on 26th September.

“‘Perfect Crime’ is written about that scary bit of time just before you go back into the dating world and you need to just bite the bullet and dive into something,” explains Joy on the new single. “It’s kind of like my version of a mantra or doing positive affirmations in the mirror… this song is basically me giving myself a pep talk.”

Speaking about the video, which she directed herself and filmed in her mother’s birth country of Bangladash, Joy has said: “The choreography was intended to be quite simple and repetitive but against a foil of something that was almost overstimulating. The location wasn’t even really a question; Dhaka, Bangladesh was the ideal backdrop, the city’s imperfect beauty and chaos imbues the video with an atmosphere that can’t be emulated or recreated. It was a perfect pairing.”

The new track follows previously released singles ‘Carmen’, ‘I Know You’d Kill’, ‘Pass The Salt’ (which features Vince Staples), and ‘Mathmatics’ (featuring Kano). Across 12 tracks, ‘Juniper’ is set to explore mental health, anxiety, body politics, and falling in love.
