Kendrick Lamar sets new album streaming record on Spotify

‘To Pimp A Butterfly’ eclipses Michael Bublé’s 2014 record.

Kendrick Lamar’s new album ’To Pimp A Butterfly’ has broken the first day streaming record on Spotify. Released on Monday, Kendrick’s much anticipated follow-up to ‘Good Kid, m.A.A.d City’ album was streamed 9.6 million times in its first day.

The previous record was held by Michael Bublé’s ‘Christmas’ which set the 9.5 million bar on Christmas Eve, 2014. Earlier this year, Drake’s ‘If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late’ set a new record for the amount of streams in one week (17.3 million).

The album features the singles ‘i’ as well as the recently shared ‘Blacker The Berry’. The album opener ‘Wesley’s Theory’ features contributions from George Clinton and Thundercat, with a guest vocal from Snoop Dogg on the track ‘Institutionalized’. Producers for the album include Flying Lotus, Pharrell Williams, and Drake collaborator Boi-1da.

Kendrick Lamar’s new album ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’ is out via Interscope now. Stream the album on Spotify below.
