Immortal man
Kendrick Lamar’s ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’ is being archived at Harvard University
The 2015 record has been selected as one of 200 hip-hop classics.
Kendrick Lamar’s categorically brilliant ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’ is to be permanently archived in Harvard University’s library. Producer 9th Wonder is curating the institution’s These Are the Breaks project, and chose the 2015 album as one of four submissions to their library.
‘To Pimp A Butterfly’ has been immortalised in the library alongside three other hip-hop classics; Nas’ ‘Illmatic’, A Tribe Called Quest’s ‘The Low End Theory’ and ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’ by Lauryn Hill.
“In 2012, I was chosen to be a Harvard University Fellow at The Dubois Institute under the direction of @henrylouisgates and Dr. Marcy Morgan,” said 9th Wonder of the project. “I chose the research project These Are The Breaks; a collection of albums that are the standard of the culture. These are the first four we chose to start with to live for forever in the Harvard Library, and to be forever placed in the canon complete with liner notes and the vinyl that was used in the production of the album. To live forever.”
The These Are the Breaks project will archive 200 albums in total. Listen to ‘Alright’ from ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’ below.
