Collab
Kendrick Lamar was in the studio with Prince recently
Collaboration didn’t forge any songs, but Kendrick cites Prince as a big inspiration.
Kendrick Lamar has revealed that he almost recorded a song with Prince, during a recent studio collaboration.
Speaking to NYC radio station Hot 97, he revealed that sessions took place last October, when both artists where in Minnesota for Purple One’s Paisley Park Estate. Nothing came of the collaboration, however. “We was vibing, but we was pressed, man,” he told the station.
Prince still had a big impact on what would eventually become ‘To Pimp a Butterfly’, though. “I didn’t trip over getting a song done. I really appreciate the actual game he was giving me … He took control of his music. He was breaking down some things that I need to consider in my career. Just really taking control of your creativity,” said Kendrick.
