La Sera’s Katy Goodman hired as developer creating open-source tools for musicians

The bassist’s first job will be to help make show listings a bit smarter.

CASH Music is a non-profit organisation that creates free open-source tools for musicians. That’s bits of code and applications to help everyone get their music out there and do cool stuff.

Their latest move, as reported via Billboard, is one of the coolest yet. Earlier this week alongside a new platform launch, they announced the hiring of Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter and bassist Katy Goodman, aka La Sera, as a developer.

“Her skills are perfect for what we need,” CASH’s Maggie Vail comments, “and what better way to build things for musicians than to hire a musician?”

Goodman’s first task will be an application for CASH’s venue database, making life easier for artists trying to publish their live dates online. “Think of it like a phonebook,” explains CASH’s co-founder Jesse Von Doom. “We don’t want artists to have to enter details for Terminal 5 or the Echo every time they’re talking about tour dates. That should just live somewhere for everyone to know. There are services that collect all that data, but their databases are closed, the info is private or exclusive, so there’s lock-in. F—- that.”

Alongside Robyn’s plans for a female-focused tech fest next month, female musicians are hitting back in the world of technology too. “I’ve been working in the music business for 21 years, and I’ve been a musician that long, and moving into tech four years ago I was like, ‘You guys, this is worse,” Goodman said. “There are a lot of the same barriers.”
