Listen: Swim Deep Stream New ‘Sycamore’ Track
New Christmas song is about 10% Christmassy, but it’s actually very good.

Do they not actually celebrate Christmas in Birmingham? First Peace offered up their ‘Last Christmas’ Wham! cover, and did so with the odd nod to Justin Hawkins which, granted, was very funny. But it wasn’t actually all that Christmassy, as Christmas singles go. Zero snowmen, barely any tinsel and not a single bloody reindeer - what were they thinking?
Swim Deep aren’t helping the cause. Yes, they’ve written a very nice, gently lifting piano song in ‘Sycamore’, but it’s not exactly resting its feet next to an open fire, stuffing a chocolate orange in its face and pouring another cup of eggnog.
Austin leads the band into a swinging, really lovely number that mentions ‘frost’ and ‘Christmas’ at one point but that’s about it really.
