Liverpool Sound City: Jungle: ‘It’s Like A Pick ‘N Mix’

DIY spoke to J and T from the London collective ahead of their Sound City set.

The final day of Liverpool Sound City sees Jungle bring their misty, funk-centric live set to the festival.

Playing at midnight on the Factory stage, the XL-signed collective are tonight’s must-see act. Tom McFarland from the band told DIY that he’s looking forward to checking out local group All We Are. ‘Those festivals are interesting,’ he said. ‘You can go in and out of anything you want. It’s like a pick ‘n mix, really.’

Jungle’s recent live shows have SXSW shows, support slots on a Haim UK tour as well as headline dates across the country. ‘We’ve gotten to a point now where we do want to celebrate what we’re doing,’ says Tom.

‘I remember seeing The Strokes at Shepherd’s Bush Empire,’ Josh Lloyd-Watson from the band recalls. ‘I remember having a specific feeling. Now, you get a little more cynical and you’re not so active at gigs. But I remember being 14 and being ‘Get me to the front!’ You need to give that back, rather than being older and cynical. I took that experience from the world. And now we’re in a position where we can give that back.’

Jungle play the Factory at Liverpool Sound City, 3rd May, 12.00am.
