London newcomer Azekel unveils video for his ‘New Romance’ single

Exciting genre-hopper’s new single is out this July.

There’s no getting round the fact. Azekel stepped things up several notches on his ‘New Romance’ single when it emerged two weeks back. A glitchy, genre-hopping sway between countless styles and moods, it’s linked together by a stampeding baseline and industrial production. It followed 2013’s impressive, introductory ‘Circa’ EP.

On the surface it’s a complex being, one that spins and deceives at will. At its heart, however, ‘New Romance’ is a simple, effective pop song dressed up in fancy gear. Its new video keeps things simple, placing Azekel in a striking black-and-white environment with nothing but a record player to hold his attention.

When ‘New Romance’ plays on his old school player, the wax comes to life. Patterns creep out of the surface, right in line with a song that brings itself into fruition as it progresses.

Jem Talbot directs the video - it’s premiering on DIY below. ‘New Romance’ / ‘Holy Matrionomy’ is out on 14th July on Thunderlightning Recordings with support from Generator.

Azekel’s expected to make his live headline debut in London later this year.
