Lorde brings ‘Yellow Flicker Beat’ to electric Fallon performance

It’s been a hectic past month for Lorde. Besides performing at last Sunday’s American Music Awards, she’s made the news for her curation of the soundtrack to the ‘Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1’, which boasts original cuts from Chvrches, Grace Jones, Charli XCX and The Chemical Brothers.

Back on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon a year after making her live TV debut there with ‘Royals’, the diminutive New Zealender gave a scintillating rendition of ‘Yellow Flicker Beat’, her own powered-up contribution to the new film score. Punctuated by hip-swinging and head-banging, the 18 year-old singer’s performance left Fallon powerless to do anything but exclaim “that’s how it’s done!”, after, presumably, picking his jaw up off the floor.

Also interviewed by the host, Lorde, real name Ella Yelich-O’Connor, amiably fielded questions on the origins of her stage name, the runaway success of her first album ‘Royals’ and her blossoming friendship with Taylor Swift.

‘Yellow Flicker Beat’ features on ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1’ and is out now via Republic.
