Neu Pick
LUCIA delivers garage-pop goodness on ‘Melted Ice Cream’
The Glaswegian kicks off 2018 with a bang. It’s today’s Neu Pick.

Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from LUCIA.
LUCIA was discovered as a busker on the streets of her hometown Glasgow. That doesn’t mean that she plays some nice acoustic guitar covers. Nope, far from it. Instead, she channels seething punk and mixes it up with pop hooks to create something captivating. It’s a blend that’s already seen LUCIA supporting the likes of Black Honey and The Big Moon.
Now, after bubbling under the city’s DIY scene throughout 2017, LUCIA is kicking off 2018 with a sweet blast of scuzzy indie goodness. ‘Melted Ice Cream’ mixes together slightly fuzzed out riffs and a searing vocal from LUCIA herself with harmonies inspired by classic girl groups like The Ronnettes. It’s a sublime mix of pop sensibilities and garage-rock tendencies, wrapped together into a tale of a doomed teenage friendship.
LUCIA is also set to play at London’s Old Blue Last tonight, and at Camden Assembly with Milk Disco on 25th January.
