Mark Ronson defends ‘Amy’ documentary

Documentary has come under criticism by Amy’s father Mitch Winehouse.

Mark Ronson has defended Amy Winehouse documentary ‘Amy’, which has recently come under criticism by the late star’s father, Mitch.

Speaking at Oxford Union Society earlier this week, the ‘Uptown Funk’ producer says ‘Amy’ gives Amy Winehouse a “legend status” that she deserves.

“I know there were a few things the family weren’t happy about,” he admitted, but he added that ‘Amy’ “puts her back on the pedestal where she belongs.”

Earlier this year, Mitch Winehouse labelled the Asif Kapadia film a “very hurtful” portrayal of his daughter, that “did not show her sense of fun.” He’s since sought out a means of making his own documentary.

Back in September, Ronson appeared on a live Q&A alongside Asif Kapadia at Festival Number 6, in Wales. Previously, he went on record praising the “respectful” approach the documentary took. Hetold The Mirror: “But what I love about it is that my wife [Josephine de La Baume] never got to meet Amy and I am always telling her stories about us in the studio and the clever, witty things that Amy would say. We watched it and my wife said, ‘Now I get it, now I see the Amy you talked about’. I forget that not everyone got to see that side of her.”
