Mark Ronson reveals that Drake declined to work with him

Ronson spoke to Alan Carr about ‘Uptown Funk’, collaborations and DJ’ing.

Mark Ronson has revealed that Drake declined to collaborate with him during the recording of his latest album ‘Uptown Special’.

Speaking on Alan Carr’s Chatty Man show, Ronson was asked about his work with other musicians, more specifically those who feature on the album. Though Stevie Wonder, Kevin Parker (Tame Impala) and Bruno Mars were happy to help, Drake wasn’t interested at the time, presumably because he was working on his own latest release ‘If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late’. “A few people have said no. I am not going to say names… Drake. He was very polite about it,” Ronson said.

Ronson also expanded on his history of collaborations in the chat, telling Alan Carr that he has been rejected a lot. “Just because I decide I want someone on a song doesn’t mean they’re not doing their own records,” he said. Ronson - who cut his teeth as a DJ during the early days of his career - also disclosed that he doesn’t like to play on the decks these days, bemoaning people’s behaviour during his past experiences. “People do come up to me in the booth and get me to announce to the valet that they have lost their parking ticket. Some people just come up and ask for a vodka tonic. It is rude.”
