Mark Ronson's ‘Uptown Funk’ breaks UK chart record

Missing out on this year’s Christmas No.1, Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ ‘Uptown Funk’ still managed to break a chart record this week.

The ‘Uptown Special’ single has become the first single to be streamed 2 million times in a single week, in the UK. It’s the first statistic of this kind, since the Official Charts Company agreed to integrate streaming data from services such as Spotify in the Singles Chart. Figures were included from July 2014 onwards. It was beaten to the #1 spot by this year’s X Factor winner, Ben Haenow.

Alongside ‘Uptown Funk’, several tracks broke the 1 million streams barrier this week, including George Ezra’s ‘Budapest’, Hozier’s ‘Take Me To Church’ and Taylor Swift’s ‘Shake It Off’.

‘Uptown Funk’ picked up 2.34 million streams in a week, beating Ed Sheeran’s previous record of 1.86 million for ‘ThinkIng Out Loud’, back in November.
