Miya Folick takes a frolic in 'God is a Woman'

Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from Miya Folick.

Fast establishing herself as a bit of a musical chameleon, Miya Folick’s latest - ‘God is a Woman’ - takes an entirely different tact to the scuzzed-up, full-pelt ‘Pet Body’.

Miya Folick apparently played basketball for a mighty 9 years and hated every minute of it, before going to drama school, and quickly sacking it off for music. All those years distracted in the wrong places have evidently bolstered her songwriting brain.

Though ‘God is a Woman’ has all the reflective introspection of her ‘Stranger Darling’ EP, it’s fleshed out with pop aspiration. “I see that God is a woman, it’s not so bad in my brain,” she sings, Miya Folick, erm, frolicking, to ever more impressive heights all the while.

‘God is a Woman’ is today’s Neu Pick. Give it a spin below, and scroll down to check out Miya Folick’s first ever UK tour dates.
