Neu Pick
Nail Polish make twisted, distorted introduction with ‘Half Right’
New York duo make feedback-drenched post-punk worthy of hysteria.
Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from Nail Polish.
On their pent-up, distorted opening gambit ‘Half Right’, Nail Polish make one hell of a statement.
The New York City duo - consisting of guitarist / vocalist Nic Brodine and bassist Jason Rivette - don’t take long in nailing their colours to the mast. “I wanna know what makes you sick,” barks Nic, who then snarls feedback-drenched lines over a solid state of static. ‘Half Right’ is somewhere between the frustration of Preoccupations and the invention of Abe Vigoda, finding sweet escape in the middle of a wall of noise.
The track forms part of a new 7” release via Illuminasty Records. It’s very, very good, and it’s streaming below.
Featuring Yard Act, Death Cab For Cutie, Graham Coxon, Maisie Peters and more.
