Ninja Tune to receive Innovator Award at this year’s AIM Independent Music Awards
Matt Black, Jonathan More and Peter Quicke will take home the gong 25 years after founding the label in 1990.
London-based label Ninja Tune are to receive the Innovator Award at this year’s AIM Awards.
Matt Black, Jonathan More and Peter Quicke will take home the gong 25 years after founding the label in 1990. Won last year by Steve Goodman (Kode9), the Innovator Award is awarded to “an artist, label or business person pushing the boundaries of independent music.”
Ninja Tune is the umbrella of many other labels which include Big Dada, Counter Records, Werkdiscs while they also manage Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder label. Artists who have released on Ninja Tune and its associated labels include Young Fathers, Bonobo, Kelis, Toddla T, Run The Jewels, and Kate Tempest.
Speaking of the honour, Matt Black (who teams with More as Coldcut) had this to say:
“Being part of AIM allows us to keep that independence whilst at the same time having the strength of a community. It’s a real honour to get this award,” continued Jon More. “AIM is so crucial in fighting the indie labels corner - making that collective voice heard where it counts. We started Ninja Tune with a firm belief of being 100% independent. That belief has not changed after all these years.”
