Noel Gallagher unveils new single ‘Ballad of The Mighty I’
The video for the second track from ‘Chasing Yesterday’ was unveiled today.
Noel Gallagher is slowly building up the anticipation for his record ‘Chasing Yesterday’, and has now gone a step further by announcing a new single. His newest cut, ‘Ballad of The Mighty I’, is the closing track of the upcoming album, and is due for release as a single on 23rd February.
That’s not all: Gallagher has enlisted the services of Johnny Marr for the track, with the revered former Smiths, Modest Mouse and Cribs guitarist delivering some lead-guitar to the former Oasis chief’s output.
Speaking of Marr’s involvement on the track, Gallager has said the follow: “I tried to get him to play on the last album but it never happened,” he commented, in a press release. “So when I put this track together and knew he would be perfect for it I called him and asked if I could send him the rough mix. He said: ‘No, I don’t want to hear it. I’m just going to react to it on the day.’ He didn’t even want any pointers. Well, that was brave of him. He just arrived with two guitars and a bag of effects pedals. And I have to say, he’s unbelievable. He’s way up there, on another level to the rest of us. The result is a burst of energy that helped make ‘…Mighty I’ one of the best songs I’ve ever written.”
The track’s accompanying video sets a mysterious, cryptic tone, at first almost mocking the conventional music video template. Gallagher sets off into a tale of indescribable characters and unanswered plots, soundtracked by his distinctive vocal over coursing yet atmospheric rhythm.
‘Chasing Yesterday’ is set for release on 3rd March, and is his second album under the ‘High Flying Birds’ moniker. It follows on from his self-titled debut, which was unveiled back in 2011.
