PLAZA find breathing space on ‘Youth’

The group’s new video is streaming first on DIY as today’s Neu Pick.

Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from PLAZA.

With their earliest steps, PLAZA presented themselves as a fidgety bunch. Skittish, math-rock inspired cuts like ‘Totem’ and ‘Blood Orange’ harboured that same shape-shifting mentality as Foals’ ‘Antidotes’ days, jumpier than a kangaroo in a boxing ring. On latest single ‘Youth’ though, they’re giving themselves room to breathe.

A soaring new guise takes the place of those early tracks, the Hartlepool bunch finding solace in shoegaze rather than fretboard fiddling. Not dissimilar to JAWS’ ‘Simplicity’ revamping, it ups the ambition tenfold, and finds PLAZA shooting for the stars.

Give it a spin via the single’s moody new video, premiering below as today’s Neu Pick.
