Neu Pick
Porridge Radio rev up the jingle bells for ‘O. Christmas’
We’re premiering this year’s traditional festive single from indie label Art is Hard.

Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from Porridge Radio.
With festive season in full swing, and one million office Christmas parties rowdily descending on a Slug & Lettuce near you, Brighton band Porridge Radio have entered into the spirit, revving up the jingle bells for unwieldy seasonal single ‘O. Christmas’.
Cracking into life with a Noddy Holder-channelling yelp of “its Chriiiiiistmas” (courtesy of Garden Centre’s Max Levy) the track also marks the final instalment of indie label Art is Hard’s annual Singles Club (a series of brand new songs from The Magic Gang, Happyness and more, rather than a fledgling dating app). Full details on the 2018 Singles Club here, if you fancy finding out more, and snap up a physical copy of the ‘O. Christmas’ single here.
Chatting about the song, Dana Margolin from Porridge Radio says: “I like Christmas songs about heartbreak and despair but I also love the cheesiness and earnestness and exaggeration that’s only really allowed in a Christmas song. I get this feeling of isolation and alienation every winter, and i was thinking of a particular break up that happened over Christmas a few years ago and how every year the same winter sadness takes over and from there it just wrote itself really.”
We’re premiering ‘O. Christmas’ below as today’s Neu Pick. Check it out.
