Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2015 announced

Ahead of its annual springtime induction ceremony, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced the latest list of names to be added to its coveted ranks.

Headed by Lou Reed, who will receive a posthumous induction for his post-Velvet Underground solo work (his band were inducted in 1996), other 2015 inductees include Bill Withers, Joan Jett and The Blackhearts, the late Stevie Ray Vaughan and The Paul Butterfield Blues Band.

In their first year of eligibility, veteran punks Green Day crown 25 years in the game by rounding off the list of six inductees.

Elsewhere, Ringo Starr (inducted with The Beatles in 1988) will be presented the Award For Musical Excellence.

After Annie Clark, Kim Gordon, Lorde and the soon-to-be-inducted Joan Jett played alongside the surviving members of Nirvana at the 2014 ceremony, many of next year’s entrants have remained coy over whether they’ll be performing at the 2015 shindig, with Ringo stating “I’m not putting a band together but if Paul does, I’ll do ‘With A Little Help From My Friends,’” Jett herself declaring “playing ‘I Love Rock and Roll’ would be a lot of fun.”

Check out Jett performing ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ with Nirvana at last year’s ceremony below.
