Job Well Done
Run The Jewels’ next album will be “the hardest shit you’ve ever heard”
In a new interview with NME, the duo talk politics and working with Zack de la Rocha
Run The Jewels are already planning their third album, the rap duo said in a new interview. Following on from 2013’s ‘Run The Jewels’, and ‘Run The Jewels 2,’ which came out the following year, El-P is promising great things - it’ll be “the hardest shit you’ve ever heard,” apparently. As for the rumours that Run The Jewels are currently working with Zack De La Rocha of Rage Against The Machine’ El-P remained tight-lipped: “Zack is my dude and anything he’s doing I obviously want to be involved in. But I’m not supposed to talk about it.”
Speaking to NME, Run The Jewels’ El-P confirmed that plans for a third album are already in motion. “We’re chipping away at it, bit by bit,” he said. “It’s hard to do on the road but we’re already feeling the urge to get it down and make it the hardest shit you’ve ever heard,”
Killer Mike also spoke about the duo’s politically charged agenda. “People talk about our rhymes being dystopian,” he points out “like when we rap about police brutality and cameras on every corner and drones over Brooklyn and blood in the streets, we’re talking about some terrible future that hasn’t happened yet. Our songs aren’t some scorched-earth hellscape vision of shit to come. It’s happening right fucking now. It’s happening in Ferguson. It’s happening in New York. This shit is right here, right now.”
