SBTRKT closes Latitude 2015 with frenzied set

Aaron Jerome remixes Radiohead in closing set on 6Music stage

Secret sets have occupied a lot of people’s thoughts at this year’s Latitude. After La Roux’s penultimate 6Music stage set, a 70 minute gap led many to think another unannounced performance was coming.

As positive as it is to have artists who cut their teeth at Latitude coming back as world beaters, 2015’s line-up boasts a brilliant, eclectic set of headliners in the first place, and after nothing follows Elly Jackson, SBTRKT set out to prove this, as advertised and billed.

Like Jon Hopkins’ headline set in this tent on Friday, SBTRKT represents a corner of Latitude’s repertoire that’s rarely highlighted, but their continued placing of ever-growing British electronic acts in such prominent slots once again pays off strikingly, with the 6Music tent packed for both.

Aaron Jerome’s electronica with sprinklings of soul incites full arms aloft euphoria from front to back to close out the festival, proving that whatever Latitude conjured in secret this year is only a sidenote to a line-up and a festival that’s keeping its tradition of giving bands and artists slots like this that may just change their careers.

“Let’s end this right”, Jerome remarks before a crazed finale to ‘Hurricane’, and SBTRKT and Latitude 2015 do just that.
