Silkie & Mala team up for THUMP & Smirnoff’s Open House party
The DJs both performed at the Bussey Building in Peckham last week.
For years, Vice’s electronic music channel THUMP has celebrated the world’s hottest dance music. The CLF Art Café, located past a series of alleyways in the heart of Del Boy’s old stomping ground Peckham, may not look much like the kind of place you’d find some of the world’s most exciting underground DJs hunched over some decks. Tonight, however, the top floor of the Bussey Building has been transformed into a dubstep fans’ dream. Free vodka-cokes are flowing at the bar, waiters are handing out delicious canapés, and all the while electronic beats pump out of the speakers.
Hosted in partnership with Smirnoff, tonight proves that great music is all you really need to create the perfect club night. THUMP’s in-house DJs get the party started with an array of club bangers, but Silkie’s set of synth-heavy dubstep most effectively brings everyone to their feet. The Detroit-born DJ has a real presence on the turntable, mixing house, soul and techno in a musically eclectic hour-long set.
Things really hot up when Mala, member of production duo Digital Mystikz, takes tothe decks. A regular on the London circuit, the DJ and producer shows everyone present why he’s considered one of underground dance music’s most respected and influential figures. His jungle-inspired take on dubstep separates Mala from any other DJ working today, and the South Londoner remains in complete command of the crowd throughout his hour long set. Together, Smirnoff and THUMP certainly know how to throw a great party.
