Simon Cowell is launching a new DJ talent show

Not content with taking over our tellies with Pop Idol, The X Factor, Britain’s Got Talent, Simon Cowell is launching another new venture. This time he’s set his sights on basement clubs and Ibiza (maybe) with a new talent show called Ultimate DJ.

During an interview at IMS in Ibiza yesterday, Simon’s co-producer and Ultra Music founder Patrick Moxey told DJ Pete Tong that the new show will provide “a massive global platform for new and emerging artists.”

Presumably Moxey didn’t go to many high profile raves in the 80s, because he added, “when you think about the underground music that Ultra started with 20 years ago, and how it’s now become a global lifestyle phenomenon today, to me, this is the next step in the evolution of this phenomenon.”

Ultimate DJ will stream online on Yahoo, from Spring 2016. Viewers will vote on Tumblr. The chief marketing officer Kathy Savitt said that the program would be “very much like the World Cup of EDM — country against country, DJ against DJ, fanbase against fanbase.” Ok, then.
