Sound of 2026
Skye Newman named winner of BBC Radio 1’s Sound of 2026
She recently supported Lewis Capaldi on his 2025 UK/Ireland tour.

BBC Radio 1 has crowned Skye Newman as the winner of its annual Sound Of poll, following voting by over 170 industry experts including Elton John, JADE, Dua Lipa, and Olivia Dean.
Among this year’s other nominees were rap sensation Jim Legxacy (runner-up), alt-pop breakthrough sombr (third place), cult favourites Geese and Aussie indie outfit Royel Otis.
The South East London singer-songwriter burst onto the scene in March last year with her debut single, ‘Hairdresser’, before scoring a UK Top 5 hit with its follow up ‘Family Matters’. Citing the likes of Amy Winehouse and Adele as her artistic inspirations, Skye trades in lyrical vulnerability and powerhouse vocals, and has already supported fellow confessional-pop favourite Lewis Capaldi on his 2025 UK and Ireland tour.
“I’m still in shock that I’ve won Radio 1’s Sound of 2026!,” Skye has said of the accolade, which has previously been awarded to Sam Smith, Celeste, The Last Dinner Party and more. “So many artists I’ve listened to over the years have been honoured with the award - and now me. To think Sound Of started the year I was born, 2003, and now I’m a winner feels unreal. I’m so grateful and wouldn’t be where I am without my people and the BBC supporting me on my journey. Thank you!”
