Soundcloud to impose streaming limit on third-party apps
Change won’t affect direct Soundcloud streams or embeds.
Last night (18th June), streaming service Soundcloud announced changes that will affect third-party apps.
Starting from 1st July, songs accessed via applications that integrate Soundcloud streams will be limited to 15,000 plays per day.
What this means - you’ll still be able to stream songs on Soundcloud as many times as you want. Sites like DIY embedding Soundcloud’s official players won’t be affected either. The limit applies more to platforms creating their own original players using Soundcloud’s API.
“This change is an opportunity for us to refocus our efforts and renew our commitment to developers,” says Soundcloud on their blog. Essentially, it is a sign of the platform attempting to further monetise, but it won’t have a big impact on how the average listener accesses music via the service.
