Spoon confirm new album ‘They Want My Soul

August release is set to be previewed with a new single on 10th June.

Spoon have confirmed what everyone’s sort of known all along - they’re releasing a new album.

‘They Want My Soul’ is out 5th August in the US via Loma Vista. UK details have yet to be confirmed. The follow up to 2010 LP ‘Transference’, the record’s lead track is expected to be revealed within the next week.

The band are leading their new album with a series of clues posted under the “R.I.P” banner. What this definitely doesn’t mean is “RIP Spoon” - that’s for sure. Fans are speculating that it refers to a song called ‘The Rent I Pay’, which is one of several titles revealed earlier in the year.

A date of 10th June has been set for the unveiling of ‘R.I.P.’

In the meantime, the band shared insight into the new album process via a recent NPR interview. “We needed a break,” admitted frontman Britt Daniel in the interview, before citing his recent work with new band Divine Fits. “Between 2001 and 2010, we put out five records, which is not a lot by ’60s standards. But in terms of today’s standards, it’s pretty fast.”
