Squid announce third album 'Cowards' and share lead single 'Crispy Skin'

Squid have returned with the news that their third album, ‘Cowards’, will be released on 7th February 2025 via Warp Records.

The LP will act as a follow up to their 2021 debut ‘Bright Green Field’ and last year’s sophomore effort ‘O Monolith’, and is set to consist of nine narrative-driven tracks, each of which feature characters reckoning with moral quandaries and the nature of evil.

Produced by Marta Salogni, Grace Banks, and the band’s longtime collaborator Dan Carey, ‘Cowards’ was recorded in Crouch End’s Church Studios and features contributions from the likes of Clarissa Connelly, Tony Njoku, and Pozi’s Rosa Brook.

The album has been introduced via its lead single ‘Crispy Skin’, which sees drummer and vocalist Ollie Judge deliver dystopian lyrics - inspired by the cannibalism-exploring novel Tender Is The Flesh - over a bed of meandering instrumentation and glitchy electronics.

Explaining more about the track, he has shared: “I think when most people read books like [Tender Is The Flesh] they picture themselves as the sort of person that would take the moral high-ground within these narratives. The track was written about how the reality of having a moral-compass in these stories of desperation and horror would be extremely difficult.”

What’s more, Squid have also announced that they’ll be celebrating the release of ‘Cowards’ with a run of Spring 2025 UK headline shows. Tickets will go on general sale from 10am on Wednesday 20th November; you can find out where to catch them live and listen to ‘Crispy Skin’ below.
