Steve Buscemi’s Dreamy Eyes announce their debut EP with ‘Swim Deep’

The amazingly-named Stockholm indie-poppers are today’s Neu Pick.

Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from Steve Buscemi’s Dreamy Eyes.

Back in the summer of 2015, bassist and vocalist Tilde Hansen tweeted out a request for new musicians to start a band. A couple of months later, the amazingly-named Steve Buscemi’s Dreamy Eyes were formed (presumably after bonding over a love of ‘Fargo’ and ‘Boardwalk Empire’). Earlier in the year, they released ‘Closer’ alongside Matilda Wiezell. Now, the Swedish band are back, readying the release of their debut EP ‘Four Waters’, which is due out on 24th November via Rama Lama Records.

“When we think of the songs on the EP we imagine ourselves standing by a dark lake somewhere deep in a forest in Sweden”, the band explain. “We see the four songs as different types of water. Still, stormy, deep and obscure. Four different songs with the same wavy sound and feeling. It’s all about water and feeling blue”.

Despite the water-based metaphors, there’s absolutely nothing wishy-washy about the EP’s lead single, ‘Swim Deep’. Exploring the idea of wanting to hide from the world and the embarrassing things you’ve done (we’ve all been there), it’s a propulsive blend of hazy riffs, dusty drum beats and swirling, ambient electronics that combine to form a deeply atmospheric and, yes, dreamy number.

Speaking of the track, the band said: “‘Swim Deep’ is about wanting to hide from your mistakes and all the embarrassing things you’ve done. It’s about wanting to disappear and not having to deal with life. But then realizing that you eventually have to face it all and stand for what you’ve said and done. There will always be people who do it better than you, but that doesn’t matter because you will find your way and your people”.
