Swimming Tapes change the ‘Tides’ with their new single

Dream pop collective share the limelight with their new single, premiering on DIY as today’s Neu Pick.

Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from Swimming Tapes.

Refreshingly free of any shred of ego, Swimming Tapes are bound by their collective dedication to nostalgia. On ‘Tides’, that shared ethos comes to the fore.

The track finds co-vocalist Louis Price taking centre stage for the first time, his soft tones the perfect bedfellow to the track’s hazy, golden-hued dream pop. Like Real Estate if they were raised in the rolling hills of the British countryside, it’s a soft-focus reflection on life’s often breathless pace.

“Some memories are perfected by the passing of time, become dreamlike, intensified by the imagination,” the band explain. “‘Tides’ is about those kind of memories, a plea to somehow go back in time and live in their magic.”

Lose yourself in ‘Tides’ below - linking up with debut single ‘Set The Fire’, it’s out now via Hand In Hive, with Swimming Tapes playing London’s Mirrors Festival alongside the likes of Bat For Lashes, Allah-Lahs and more next month.

Swimming Tapes will play Mirrors Festival (29th October), where DIY is an official media partner. Tickets are on sale now. Visit diymag.com/presents for more information.
