The Black Keys turn on the blues at Glastonbury

The band perform on the Pyramid Stage ahead of headliners Kasabian.

Just Dan Auerbach and a shiny gold guitar. That’s the moment The Black Keys’ set on the Pyramid Stage this Sunday evening makes total sense. As the sun sets prettily over the Glastonbury hills, it’s the stripped back to its core portion of ‘Little Black Submarines’ that is the absolute highlight of the Ohio pair’s show.

Forget the beefed-up band (there’s at least a bassist and organ player hidden up there), the giant screens merging album artwork with fuzzily-filmed mock psychedelic footage. Leave even the extended solos and fret-meandering Auerbach steps in and out of, and the frenetic drum-work of bandmate Patrick Carney. If each band here has a ‘moment’ where they and the festival converge in to one; this is theirs.

The Black Keys played:

Dead and Gone
Next Girl
Run Right Back
Gold on the Ceiling
It’s Up To You Now
Nova Baby
Howlin’ For You
Ten Cent Pistol
Money Maker
Strange Times
Gotta Get Away
She’s Long Gone
Tighten Up
Fever
Lonely Boy
Little Black Submarines
