The Cribs debut new b-side ‘Orange Star Rattle’

Listen to the first - and only - song The Cribs have recorded with none of the members being in the same room at once.

Following an all-out triumphant set at this year’s Sound City, The Cribs are sharing a new track.

‘Orange Star Rattle’ is a frantic, raw-as-it-gets off-cut from the group’s latest album ‘For All My Sisters’. Premiering on DIY, it also happens to be the only song The Cribs have ever recorded when none of the members were in the same room at once. “As a rule we like to record live, but for this song the fragmented nature of our personal lives meant that it was necessary for us to be dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century,” they tell DIY.

Initially recorded by Gary Jarman in his Portland studio, it was then sent over to Ross for a drum take at Leeds’ Greenmount Studios. Following that, Ryan laid down guitar parts via his New York hub. It’s got more air miles than Easyjet on a rampage, essentially. Not only that - the track was initially conceived during a soundcheck in Australia. ‘Orange Star Rattle’ is in desperate need of a passport.

“We have always believed that B-sides are a really important part of our output as a band,” The Cribs say. “They are frequently held up as favourites by our die-hard fans, so we have always made every effort to make sure that each of our single releases are accompanied by brand new tracks.”

‘Orange Star Rattle’ arrives alongside new single ‘Different Angle’ for a 7” release on 1st June via Sonic Blew / Sony RED. Pre-order here.
