The Mercury Prize returns to the BBC in 2015

The BBC and The Mercury Prize have announced that the annual award ceremony will return to the broadcaster’s network.

A new partnership between the two has been announced today (8th July), which sees the event leaving its current home on Channel 4.

BBC Four and BBC Radio 6 Music will handle full coverage and build-up to the ceremony. Lauren Laverne will continue to host the event - she says the award represents “a fantastic celebration of Britain’s vibrant, diverse music scene.”

A BBC statement says the partnership will “move away from its traditional Awards Show event to work with the BBC to deliver even greater reach and more premium quality music content.” Sounds very official.

The 2015 Shortlist is announced on Friday 16th October, with the ceremony taking place on Friday 20th November.
