The Spook School sign to Alcopop! for new album ‘Could It Be Different?’, share ‘Still Alive’ video

Currently on a UK and European tour with Diet Cig, the band’s third LP will come out in January.

Glasgow four-piece The Spook School are currently gallivanting around the UK and Europe on tour with Diet Cig, and we’re proud to announce that they’re set to release their third album in January of 2018!

‘Could It Be Different?’ will be the band’s first release on new label Alcopop! Over in the States, the album is coming out on Slumberland. The new record is being previewed by a video for new single ‘Still Alive’.

As the band do best, ‘Still Alive’ team the most sugary, bright melodies with songs of angst and discontent. “Fuck you, I’m still alive,” they yell in the track’s chorus, and the track instantly enters their growing arsenal of anthems for the outsiders.

Speaking about the track, vocalist Nye Todd says: “‘Still Alive’ is about no longer being in an abusive relationship. My tendency was to blame myself for not seeing signs or leaving sooner which wasn’t helpful or fair, so I wrote this song to try and force myself out of that mindset.

“In a way it’s a pretty angry song, with that anger being directed at people that carry out abusive behaviours towards others. I think there’s a kind of pride in it as well though - a recognition that you had the strength to get through a shitty situation and to do what you needed to do & that you don’t need to feel shame.”

‘Could It Be Different?’ comes out on 26th January via Alcopop! and follows 2015’s ‘Try To Be Hopeful’, released on the now-defunct but similarly exclamation mark-loving Fortuna Pop!.
