The xx will be hosting a range of cinema events to coincide with their Brixton residency
The band and guest directors are curating a series of film screenings focusing on a variety of different themes.
After announcing a frankly completely insane line-up of special guestsfor their upcoming Brixton residency, The xx have unveiled plans for a series of
specially curated film screenings.
Put together by the band, featuring their favourite films
and curations from guest directors, the screenings are taking place between
8th-15th March, with each day focusing on a different topic, theme or selection
from filmic figures.
On the 8th there’s ‘A Celebration of Club Culture’, featuring
the first digital screening of documentary ‘All Junglists! London Some’ting Dis’,
while ‘Gurl Talk’ on the 9th includes showings of ‘The Virgin Suicides’ and ‘Girlhood’,
as well as a Q&A with Adwoa Aboah, founder of Gurls Talk. Jeremy Deller
presents a collection of movies on the 10th, with Andrea Arnold and Roman
Gavras taking over on the 11th and 12th respectively, as well as taking part in
a set of Q&As.
The xx’s own video for ‘On Hold’ gets a screening on 13th
March alongside Gus Van Sant’s classic ‘My Own Private Idaho’, and 90’s romance
is in the spotlight the next day (cue everyone crying at ‘Romeo + Juliet’). Fittingly,
film music takes centre stage on the final day of the cinema programme.
