“We can’t imagine what Friday’s going to be like” - Thyla gear up to play Slaves’ album launch

The quartet will be opening up proceedings at the Kent duo’s Old Blue Last show this week.

To celebrate the release of Slaves’ new album ‘Acts of Fear and Love’, the duo will be throwing a very special launch party this Friday at London’s infamous boozer The Old Blue Last. That’s not all: they’ve invited along a host of friends to join in the fun, including scuzzy Brighton quartet Thyla, who’ll be opening up on the night.

Ahead of their slot, we had a quick catch up with the band’s singer Millie, about what punters coming along can expect from their set, and what have been some of their own stand-out acts of fear and love (geddit?!).

Hello! What’s been going on in the world of Thyla recently?
We’ve spent the majority of the summer hiding out in our little windowless rehearsal room, sweating buckets and writing new tunes for the fall.

You’re playing at The Old Blue Last for Slaves’ launch party on Friday? How’re you looking forward to it?
The walls were dripping when we played with them last week in Dover! We can’t imagine what Friday’s going to be like.

For anyone out there who’s not seen you live yet, what should they be expecting?
It’s difficult for me to answer that - I wish I could go out of body and watch one of our sets! I know we always bring loads of energy, Danny hits hard and the guitars are loud.

As you’re playing at Slaves’ album launch show - and the record is titled ‘Acts of Fear and Love’ - what’s the best act of love you’ve witnessed recently?
One of our regulars at work suffers with Alzheimer’s. She can come in up to ten times a day. Another kind-hearted customer recognised this and now makes the effort to come in and pre-pay for her teas.

And what about one of your fears?
Social media.

What’ve you got coming up later in the year?
We’re amidst EP preparations so you can expect new music from us soon and hopefully some release parties of our own!
