TOPS have shared new track ‘Further’
It’s the latest dream-pop number to be taken from upcoming album ‘Sugar At The Gates’.
Back in March, Montreal’s TOPS revealed that their new album
‘Sugar At The Gates’ would be released on 2nd June through Arbutus.
The LP was apparently recorded at a particular LA spot
called “Glamdale”, a mini-mansion in the Glendale area that formerly used to be
a brothel. Speaking to Gorilla vs. Bear at the time, lead vocalist Jane Penny
said that “living in LA was living out a teenage fantasy”, and that she “took
the experience of living in LA as a challenge to make music that I know is real
to me, in the sense of it feeling true”.
That element of deep sincerity is present on their new track
‘Further’, a glistening, floaty indie-pop number that shimmers with electronic
details. It also sees Jane repeatedly and very sincerely singing “I just can’t
let it go/ I just can’t let it die”, sounding real to herself as well as her
audience.
