Ultimate Painting announce new single ‘(I’ve Got The) Sanctioned Blues’

Jack Cooper and James Hoare challenge the state of today’s society in second single from their new LP.

With the announcement of further financial cuts as part of the 2015 Budget making our country’s landscape look all too bleak, it’s with pertinent timing that the second single from Ultimate Painting’s sophomore release ‘Green Lanes’ is released.

‘(I’ve Got The) Sanctioned Blues’ sees Jack Cooper and James Hoare take their idiosyncratic approach to melodic structure and combine it with verses on government mistrust and contempt for the current state of today’s society.

“The Conservative government that we’ve had in the UK for the last 5 years have been particularly hard and cruel on the less fortunate members of society. Someone who’s found themselves unemployed has to jump through a variety of hoops to receive a job seekers allowance; a paltry amount of money to help support themselves,” states Cooper, who takes on the lead vocal.

“If you’re late for your meeting or you fuck up some paperwork, they slap you with a sanction and the tiny amount of money you’re getting by on gets taken away. It’s straight out of Catch 22. “(I’ve Got The) Sanctioned Blues” is us trying to make sense of that.”

While the track follows an incensed theme in it’s lyrical approach, Cooper and Hoare deliver with familiar haze in their tone, their union of off-kilter melodies and bright harmonies providing an impressively catchy pop-template.

‘Green Lanes’ is set for release on 7th August through Trouble In Mind. ‘(I’ve Got The) Sanctioned Blues’ is released on 28th August.

Ultimate Painting are set for two dates at London’s Power Lunches next month, with the dates as follows:
