Neu Pick
Weddings marry angst and art on ‘It’s You Not Me’
The tight post-punk crew’s debut EP is out next month.
Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from Weddings.
Like the snap of an elastic band, Weddings’ sharp take on guitar pop carries a sting that lingers. On ‘It’s You Not Me’, they aim it straight at an “out of touch” target.
Twisting, turning and folding in on itself, it’s musical origami - a time signature knotting exercise in art-rock excellence. Both rigid and seemingly free-flowing, the London troupe capture the disorientating melancholy of a sudden change of situ in every sharp-edged note.
Taken from debut EP ‘Making Shapes’, get the first spin of ‘It’s You Not Me’ below. That EP’s out on Barely Regal Records on October 14th (pre-order it here), with Weddings backing it up with the following shows:
SEPTEMBER
24 London, DIY Space for London (w/ Dowsing, Ratboys, Donovan Wolfington + more)
OCTOBER
14 Manchester, Carefully Planned Festival
Festival special! Featuring Wolf Alice, Kasabian, Lykke Li, Marmozets, Genesis Owusu and more.
